Please note that study abroad students pay tuition to their home institutions. Room and board are paid directly to Mercy University, and must be paid in full. You will be responsible for all travel, insurance, and living expenses. For the purpose of the Form I-20, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds for living expenses. If you plan to study at Mercy for one semester only, the bank statement must show $8,425 (or U.S. equivalent). If you plan to study at Mercy for one year, the bank statement must show $16,850 (or U.S. equivalent)*

Mercy University incoming study abroad students will need an F-1 visa and will be receiving a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant F-1 Student Status). They are not eligible and should not apply for the J-1 visa. Please keep this in mind when making the visa appointment. • Financial documents submitted as part of the I-20 application package should be no more than 3 months older than the date that they are submitted • All students must be registered full-time (at least 12 credits in the classroom. No online classes are permitted). The average student takes 15 credits (5 classes) and 15 credits is the standard course load for exchange students as well. Course registration opens in mid-March for the Fall semester and mid-November for the Spring semester. Exchange students are only permitted to register for undergraduate courses level 400 and below. • Students must live on campus (either Manhattan or Dobbs Ferry campus). Please pay close attention to housing deadlines and requirements for the housing application. That information will be communicated upon acceptance. • Exchange students do not qualify for internships and are not permitted to work off campus. . Students can enter the U.S. no more than 30 days before semester starts, as per F-1 visa regulations. Students have a 60 day grace period after semester ends (but cannot remain in the residence hall during the grace period). Students should avoid booking flights until they have their visas, and should be mindful of the residence hall opening and closing dates and deadlines. • While in the U.S., if students want to visit other countries outside the U.S., they must check the visa entry requirements of that particular country beforehand and must make sure they obtain a travel signature on their Form I-20 from International Student Services. • Once the exchange program is completed, students can request official transcripts to be sent to their home institution by emailing registrar@mercy.edu.*
